The Application Of Quilting Art In Fashion Design

Quilting is not only a kind of symbol, a kind of technology, but also a kind of art forms, a method of decoration, and a traditional craft that a designer stitched some regular or irregular cloth together according his design ideas. Quilting art is widely used in the clothing around the world; its forms can be found everywhere. This paper start from the origin of quilting art, introduced its application and development in the eastern and western clothing at different times and areas. New ideas and inspiration about the quilting art were put forward based on the study and summary, which can be used for practical guidance. This article is divided into five chapters: part 1, introducing the background, research objective, and the research status of subjects; chapter 1 to chapter 4 are the main parts of this paper, which summarized and then compared the origin, development, and the difference of color and production methods of eastern and western quilting art. And then analyze the application and development of quilting forms in modern apparel. In the end, chapter 5 summarized the practice and ideas of the author about quilting art, some ideas and suggestions about the application of quilting art in fashion design are also put forward.
