The wastewater containing phenol is harm to environment and people pay more attention to treatment in wastewater containing phenol. As the ideal and efficient adsorption material, activated carbon fibers have a great application prospect in the adsorption industry. With the gradual depletion of fossil resource, it is very important to research renewable resources to produce activated carbon fiber. In this study, activated carbon fibers were prepared from wood residue through liquefaction, spinning, curing and stream activation. XPS was used to investigate element content of the carbon fiber precursor prepared from liquefied wood. The effects of activation time and activation methods on the microstructure, specific surface area and phenol adsorption of the liquefied wood activated carbon fibers were studied. Besides, in order to increase phenol adsorption, activated carbon fibers were modified by ammonia. Wood liquefied based activated carbon fibers not only provide a simple and convenient treatment of wastewater containing phenol, but also improve the utilization of wood resources. Results indicated that:The mesoporous number and morphology of wood based activated carbon fiber by using one step preparation are better. When the activation temperature is 900℃, phenol adsorption reached maximum. Wood based activated carbon fiber phenol adsorption followed kinetics of Lagergren secondary rules. Specific surface area of wood based activated carbon fiber was declined through modified by ammonia, but amount of phenol adsorption was increased.
