Surface Plasmon polaritons(s) are the coupled of incident light and electrons at a metal surface, which makes free electrons of the metal surface oscillated. The oscillating free electrons make electromagnetic waves which propagate along the interface between the metal and the dielectric layer. s can confine the light waveguide to subwavelength volumes. Recently, researcher found the s have great application potential in biology, environment, photology. One-dimensional nanowires are the fundamental nanostructure of s research. s of the chemical synthesized Ag nanowire can confine light waveguide to subwavelenth volumes beyond the diffraction limit.Based on the above principle, synthesizing Ag nanowire with smooth sidewall and measuring the s propagation loss on Ag nanowire have great means. This dissertation is about the experiment details of Ag nanowires synthesized. Find out the effect of the reaction time and the reaction temperature. The role of PVP in synthesis Ag nanowire is also be researched.And then, introduce some common method of exciting s propagation on Ag nanowire. In the experiment, using Lens-focus coupling and Nanofiber-to-nanowire coupling for exciting the Ag nanowire s propagation. In using Nanofiber-to-nanowire, worked out how to couple space laser into fiber and fabricate nanofiber taper. To compare these two method, Nanofiber-to-nanowire coupling is more suitable for the next experiment.Using nanofiber direct excited the s waveguide on Ag nanowire surface and measuring the propagation loss. Compare the experiment date with the simulation curve. And the s propagation loss will different when propagate on the Ag nanowire with same diameter and different length, which means the surface smoothness of the nanowire will effect different propagation length.
