Blanc chloromethylation is a kind of very classical reaction, which is a very important method on inducting chloromethyl in benzene ring. The chloromethyl with high chemical reactivity and can be turned into many other groups, which is an important step in the preparation of strong base or weak base polymer materials. However, commonly used chloromethylation reagent, such as Cl CH2OCH3 and(Cl CH2)2O, they have the advantages of low price of raw materials, high reactivity, good reaction selectivity, but they also have the disadvantages of more volatile, highly unstable, carcinogenicity and have been banned by many industrial countries. HCHO-HCl system is another chloromethylation reagent, but the reaction activity is low, reaction time is long and the yield is not high. In this paper, we use the trimethylchlorosilane(TMCS) and 1,4-bis(chloromethoxy) butane(BCMB) which have non-toxic or low and no carcinogenicity as chloromethylation reagent for the chloromethylation of PP-ST-DVB and PPS fibrous matrix. Then we prepared a strong base ion exchange fiber material through the subsequent functional reaction. The main contents and results were summarized as follows.(1). Studying on the chloromethylation reaction which use PP-ST-DVB fiber as the basic skeleton and TMCS and BCMB as chloromethylation reagent. Various factors affecting chloromethylation reaction of PP-ST-DVB fiber were investigated, such as material ratio, reaction time, reaction temperature. Then the technological conditions of chloromethylation reaction were optimized by orthogonal design. Elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and ion chromatography means were used to characterize and analyze the structure and properties of chloromethylation fiber(CMPP-ST-DVB). The results showed that the chloromethyl can be introduced on the benzene ring structure under optimum conditions. The chlorine content was 13.27%. The exterior appearance and mechanical strength of the chloromethylation fiber have not changed significantly.(2). Studying on the chloromethylation reaction which use PPS fiber as the basic skeleton and TMCS as chloromethylation reagent. Various factors affecting chloromethylation reaction of PPS fiber were investigated, such as material ratio, reaction time, reaction temperature and catalyst dosage. Elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and ion chromatography means were used to characterize and analyze the structure and properties of chloromethylation fiber(CMPPS). The results showed that the chloromethyl can be introduced on the benzene ring by Blanc chloromethylation reaction. The chlorine content was 13.93%. The micromorphology and mechanical strength of the chloromethylation fiber have not changed significantly.(3) A series new strong basic ion exchange materials were prepared by using CMPP-ST-DVB and CMPPS fiber as basic skeleton and aq. trimethylamine, N-methylimidazole as functional reagent. The strong basic ion exchange fibers have high exchange capacity and good mechanical strength.
