Amber, as a kind of fossil resin, is formed by ancient plants with special geological processes, as a result the plant species, forming environment, the types of geological processes will have an impact on its’ physical and chemical characteristics. In this paper, we will take the Baltic and Burman golden amber as the research object, and systemic analyze the differences and relationship between them. With the color parameter analysis of the Baltic and Burman golden amber, we can find that the Baltic golden amber wich has higher lightness and chroma, shows a slight green in color appearance, while the Burman golden amber turns out to be a little reddish. Comprehensive analyzing the color parameters of golden amber under different lightness neutral background, it can be found that with the increase of neutral background lightness, both Baltic and Burman golden amber’s lightness and chroma values are significantly increased. And the influence of neutral background lightness is so large, that transcend the golden amber’s own lightness value itself. And how the neutral background lightness impact on chroma value is associated with the golden amber’s own chroma, the higher chroma the golden amber gets the more sensitive it will be to react to the neutral background lightness changes. Between the two origins, Burman golden amber is affected more by the background lightness.Golden amber’s infrared spectrum has some characteristic peaks, such as the peak at 2931cm-1 caused by C-H asymmetric stretching vibration and peak at 2860cm-1 caused by C-H symmetric stretching vibration, and golden amber from two origins is consistent in the characteristic peak positions, but in Burma golden amber the spectrum peaks near 1460 and 1380cm-1 drift to lower frequency. Based on the two origins’ amber spectrum characteristics, the Baltic golden amber can be determined for cupressaceae plants, and Burman golden amber is determined for dipterocarpaceae. In addition, in the Raman spectra, ratio N calculated by measuring the band height caused by ν(C=C) and δ(CH2), is inversely proportional to maturity, and the ratio N of Baltic golden amber(0.732) is higher than the Burman golden amber’s(0.672). Considering the characteristic bands near 720cm-1 and 880cm-1, it proves that Burman golden amber has higher maturity than the Baltic golden amber.Element analyzer can calculate the main elements percentage such as C, H, O, N, etc, according to the C content to determine degree of amber petrochemical. In Burman golden amber, it has a large content of C, verifying the high maturity. By other elements content analysis, find out that in both origins the H element content is roughly same, and the C content reduce while the O element content increasing. Combining golden amber color parameters with S elements content, we can confirm S is not the main cause that amber color changes from yellowish green to reddish brown,...
