Charring agent is one of the most important compontents in intumescent flame retardant(IFR), its solubility, thermal stability and charring performance nearly determines the applied range and flame retardant efficiency of IFR. The ingredients found in typical Charring agent usually include tertiary nitrogen structure. Since Triazine derivatives exactly contains the tertiary nitrogen structure, they got a behoove as the High-efficiency Charring Agent.The synthesis of Triazine derivatives generally start from cyanuric chloride,then react with compounds containg different functional groups to synthesize various macromolecules which contain various functional groups.In this article we select the cyanuric chloride, ethanolamine and 1,3-propanediamineas raw materials to synthesize a efficiency carbon forming agent.This kind of Charring agent are inclusive, without transfer,and precipitation.After a series of experiments we can get the best technological conditions as follow: In the first step, matain the reaction temperature at 0℃, select the acetone and water as solvent ,make cyanuric chloride and ethanolamine react with 1:1 for two hours. Secondly ,make the temperature increase to 45℃,mix liquid caustic and 1,3-propanediamineas to reaction for 4h. Then increase the temperature to recycle acetone and add acetone amount of water.Thirdly ,Heating up to 95 ℃ to recycle, mix liquid causticnd and 1,3-propanediamineas with 1:1to react for 10h. Infrared spectrum analysis prove that the target product has been synthesized; thermogravimetric analysis showed that the Charring agent remain48% at 600℃ and 32% at 800℃,having good thermal stability and charring property.Mixing the High-efficiency Triazine Charring Agent and to prepare IFR, and make In-depth study on the flame retardant properties of composite PP. The results indicates that: with 16wt%/4wt% adjunction of the High-efficiency Triazine Charring Agent and PUAPP to the PP, they can achieve UL-94 V-0 flame retardant grade. The TGA and CONE tests shows that the Maximum TGA temperature has increased from 436℃ to 482℃, In the range of more than 600℃,carbon residue keeps more than 10%; The SEM analysis conducted in carbon residue based on CONE test prove that, IFR / PP have a good foaming performance, succeeding in forming a carbon layer; further FTIR analysis indicates that the inner surface of phosphoric acid has no time to cross linking until heat has been cut off by outer surface which is carbon layer; energy elemental analysis (EDS) indicates that the carbon sea mainly contains the C, O, P, every element content varies greatly from the outer surface to inner surface.There are also various intense chemical reactions between inner and outer surfaces of carbon layer.The inner surface of carbon layer is rich in elements like N,O,H,etc, reactions during them produce a large amount of NH3, H2O and other non-combustible gas release, playing an important role in gas isolation.On the other hand, the outer surface of carbon layer contains a great amount of P,O, C elements which exist In the form of molten material can form intumescent carbon layer and definitely stop the combustion.
