Three-dimensional printing technology set off an upsurge with its unique advantages in academia and industry in recent years. Three-dimensional printing is based on the design of three-dimensional model, using polymer plastic, photosensitive novolaks, metal powder, coated powder materials, by layered overlay material to make 2-dimensional graphics manufacture to 3-dimensional model. This technology integrates computer technologies, such as CAD, CAE and CAM. It’s characterized by rapidity, high flexibility, and high efficiency, especially suitable for manufacturing complex structure model for small batch. The products have already applied in automotive, aerospace and other fields.This paper, combining with the digital casting technology, studied for coated powder materials used in 3-dimensional printing. In order to solve the problem of low strength of traditional casting coated sand when used in 3D print.First, we design reasonable coated process, then reinforce the strength of the sand by choosing the original sand size and adding coupling agent, exploring the relationship between the hot strength of coated sand and the technological parameters, finally using PIRP to print foundry mold.Because of the long cycle and the difficult of making chilling iron, we explore the iron powder that could be in 3D printing to play a chilling effect in casting production.By the experiments of exploring the effects of process, we determined the proportions of each material and the mixing time. Through holding furnace heating, the actual casting and the means of numerical simulation, we verified its chilling effect. At last, to match up the application of 3-dimensional in cultural creativity, we developed lightweight coated materials that can make 3-dimensional printing prototype and researched a reasonable casting method and post-processing technological parameters by determining the proportions of each materials.
