Forced air cooling is the main cooling way of high quality carbon steel material wire. The research on the relationship between air volume and product performance can bring profits to the iron & steel enterprise. Profits like quality increasing, waste reduction, cost reduction, efficiency increasing and so on. The bulk volume transport air cooling line in the high speed wire rod finishing block, so called the STELMOR Cooling, had been built recently in a new workshop of an Iron & Steel Mill. The cooling function depends on the fans under the conveying roller. The direction of air supply is from the bottom of the products to the skylight windows on the roof. The goal of this study is analyzing the technics environment, the cooling system, the space air distribution. And put forward a reasonable scheme for the air supply of STELMOR Cooling. The study is based on the locale data gathering, the volecity and temperature field in an CFD analogue simulation.During the site test, the fan parameters act normally, and there’s not any impeded or hardware failure problem in the cooling system. But obvious air turbulents can be found in the skylight windows on the roof. These windows would be damaged by the air flowing and be replaced often at regular intervals. The side windows and rolling door on the workshop walls keep closed during the productive process. Because of that, the air in the workshop runs for internal circulation with high temprature. It makes certain influence to the forced air cooling. So in the CFD analogue simulation this study should pay more attention to these subjects mentioned and try to optimized them. After analyzing the cooling system, the technics environment, the space air distribution in the CFD analogue simulation, there are three aspects which influnce the cooling efficiency had been found.(1)Air swirling in the workshop;(2)The open measures of the side windows and rolling doors;(3)The skylight windows. According to the simulation, the new workshop design and construction scheme had been optimized. The new ventilator and larger skylight windows had been added on the workshop roof. The rolling door numbers and the openning area of the side windows had been increased. The management of doors and windows had also been changed. Because of the optimized measures, the ventilation environment became more reasonable and the forced cooling efficiency had been increased.
