Gas quenching steel slag, with fine and homogeneous particle size and highercontent of CaO and MgO etc, is converter steel slag processed by nitrogen quenchingtechnology. Gas quenching steel slag is used as sintering flux, which can provide a cost-effective way of metallurgical waste utilization to reduce environmental pollution, andpromote the development of the nitrogen quenching technology.The properties of the gas quenching steel slag are studied with its compositionanalysis and the other performance measurement. The influence rule of sinter with gasquenching steel slag is discovered combined the mini-sintering experiment and sinter pottest. The effect on phosphorus removal of gas quenching steel slag is surveyed by meansof microwave carbothermal reduction. The experiments show following conclusions:Gas quenching steel slag can be used as sinter flux to replace part of the limestoneand dolomite, for which the fine and homogeneous particle size, higher content of CaOand MgO and better liquid phase fluidity is as the theoretical basis. The dosage of limeand dolomite is decreased as increasing the ratio of gas quenching steel slag, whichprovides the experimental basis for it.The research on the mini-sintering experiment shows that gas quenching steel slaghas appropriate performance, good flow property and good intensity of bindingphase.The assimilation performance and flow performance of mixed ore is improved, bindingphase strength decreased as increasing the amount of gas quenching steel slag.The studyon the sinter pot test shows that using gas quenching steel slag can reduce cokeconsumption, improve the yield of sinter,the size distribution, refractoriness under loadand LTB(Low Tempera-ture Break-down).However, using gas quenching steel slag brings some problems that the ferrousgrade of sinter is lower, P content increased, drum strength decreased, reductionperformance deteriorated and so on, which limits the amount of gas quenching steel slagused as sinter flux. The better ratio of gas quenching steel slag used in sinter is not exceed10%by overall consideration,while the appropriate proportion of gas quenching steelslag is2%under the test conditions. Microwave carbothermal reduction can remove partof the phosphorus of gas quenching steel slag. Gasification dephosphorizing rate isincreased with increasing carbon equivalent.To increase the accuracy of the test, using mini-sintering experiment and sinter pottest verifies each other. To some extent, the result of mini-sintering experiment canreflect sinter pot test, which provides a new way of sinter test. The suitable ratio is lower,while the amount of gas quenching steel slag will increase with changing the testconditions.
