The human are confronted with lack of resources and serious environmental pollution. Besides adopting energy-saving emission reduction technology and making full use of energy on the engine, developing substitute energy is an effective approach to reduce excessive reliance on petroleum resources. Bio-diesel is clean and renewable energy, taking soybean, rapeseed oil, palm oil, Chinese pistache trees, micro-algae, animal fats, restaurant waste oil as raw material to make up into liquid fuel, and it is the superior substitute fuel for diesel oil. Bio-diesel is a kind of typical "green energy", and developing bio-diesel fuel with no efforts has strategic significances for sustainable development of economy, promoting substitute energy sources to develop, alleviating environment pressure and controlling urban air pollution.The testing research has been done on 4100QBZL turbocharged diesel engine which is fueled with B10, B20 and B100 bio-diesel to obtain power characteristic, economy characteristic, combustion characteristic,, the emission of 13 operating conditions. The fuel consumption of fueling the diesel engine with B10, B20 and B100 bio-diesel is about 1%, 1.8% and 10% higher than that the diesel engine is fueled with pure diesel oil respectively, and the power characteristic decrease 1.3%,1.9% and 9.7% respectively when compared with pure diesel oil, as well as the exhaust temperature decreasing 1.3%,2.5% and 7.9% respectively. CO emission of 13 operating conditions is 8.5%,18.2% and 34.8% lower than pure diesel respectively, and HC of that is 9.6%,20.3% and 40.5% lower respectively, as well as the smoke 8.2%,19.1% and 40.5% lower respectively, but NOx emission is 3.6%, 5.8% and 9.8% higher when compared with pure diesel oil. The changing trends of the plateau and the plain are basically as the same. When the engine operating in the plateau and the plain at the same operating condition, the fuel consumption of the former is 5.7% higher than that of the latter, and the power characteristic of the former is 5% lower than that of the latter, but the exhaust temperature of the former is 8.7% higher than that of the latter. When the diesel engine is fueled with bio-diesel of different proportion, the combustion starting point brought forward, the maximum outbreak pressure and pressure rise rate decrease, and maximum heat release rate and maximum combustion temperature also decrease, combustion end delayed.
