High speed cutting is one of the important developing directions in machineing work.It has been widely used in complex parts and difficult-to-machine materials because of its machining pattern(high-speed, small depth of cut and fast feeding rate).For high speed cutting tools, reducing the wear resulted from cutting heat and force is a urgent problem.The study aims at getting reasonable cutting force and cutting heat by optimizing tool gemetric parameters(rank angle,clearance angle and cutting edge).In this paper,current reseachs on high-speed cutting and cutting tool home and abroad are summarized. And high speed cutting theory is also expounded.Based on literature,it is found in the paper that the numerical simulation model of high speed cutting can be obtained by amending the low speed model.So the first cuts Titanium alloy (TC4) with carbide tool(YG8) at low speeds. A two-dimensional orthogonal finite element model is established based on key technologies such as material models, chip separation and breakage criteria, friction model and contact model.ABAQUSTM,a finite element analysis software,is used for cutting process simulation.The variation of cutting force is obtained by cutting simulation at low-speed region in different cutting speeds and cutting depths.The results have good agreements the experimental ones in the same conditions.Then combined with theory and practice, the two-dimensional orthogonal finite element model can be adapted to high speed cutting by amending of the friction model at low speeds. For researching chip formation and the varying trend of the cutting force and temperature with the geometric parameters of the tool,high speed simulation is carried out.The simulation results obtained are coincided with the high-speed cutting theory.The data of the cutting forces and cutting temperatures obtained from the high speed simulation are used to construct a function through the BP neural network algorithm.The relation among tool geometric parameters,cutting forces and cutting temperatures is established. Tool geometric parameters are optimized in the conditions above by Genetic Algorithm based on reasonable constraint. The calculated parameters are proved to be the best by simulation.A new optimization way of tool geometric parameter in cutting TC4 is put forward in this project. In the same time, the method can be used for cutting other material and provide a reference in high speed cutting reseach.
