With the society and economy progressing and the development of urban construction, the impact of industrial and domestic sewage on the living environment and ecological environment have become more and more apparent. To improve the living environment and reduce the environmental impact of sewage, it demands building a lot of urban sewage treatment plants. Sewage treatment plant has also become one of the infrastructural marks of culture, development, life, and investment environment of a city.The construction of sewage treatment facilities in Mianyang city is very important to protect the Yangtze River water resources and ecological environment. It demands comprehensive improvement of water environment of Mianyang city, so that the sewage discharges up to the standard. There are three key issues in the implementation of the Tangxun sewage treatment plant project, which make the effective implementation of sewage treatment technology, a continuous and stable operation of the system to ensure water quality standards, to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, to protect the environment from pollution along the River Basin and protect the fitness of the people along the river: (1) Choose the suitable sewage treatment technology program; (2) Improve the automation level of sewage treatment and; (3) Propose The corresponding energy-saving methods.In the process of research, based on the background of the constructing Mianyang Tangxun sewage treatment plant and incorporating with an actual engineering example, we introduce the construction and development and research situation of urban sewage treatment plant in chapter 1. Then, we summarize the main process of urban sewage treatment, analyze and select the modified A/O technology program by expert score method based on actual conditions of Mianyang Tangxun sewage treatment plant in chapter 2. Next, we propose the general idea of designing automation system software and analyze the function modules and data flow based on sewage treatment process which adopts the modified A/O technique program in chapter 3. Furthermore, we implement sewage treatment automation system hardware infrastructure based on PLC and Industrial Ethernet combination with PROFIBUS field bus in chapter 4. And in chapter 5, we develop and implement automation system software which is a distributed multi-layer application system based on Web techniques, SQLServer2000 database and Microsoft Transaction Server. At last, we come to conclusion and propose the future work in chapter 6.
