Kunming is rich in resource of placer titanium. Between 20% and 30% when the grade is beyond 45%, the recovery is low owing to the poor technique of separationg. Therefore, improving the recovery of plays an important part in efficient utilization of titanium resources at Kunming.Different research on separation procedures and the analysis of procedures were conducted on the basis of process mineralogy and relative properties of a placer titanium ore from Kunming.The purpose of study is to explore more effective procedures and the good measures of improving the recovery.Tests indicated that, by the open flowsheet of gravity concentration, ilmenite concentrate can be obtained with grade of 48.36% and recovery of 26.18%, by the open flowsheet combined HIMS and gravity concentration, ilmenite concentrate can be obtained with grade of 47.23% and recovery of 47.36, by the open flowsheet combined HIMS and flotation, ilmenite concentrate can be obtained with grade of 46.69% and recovery of 57.32%. The results of the tests show that the latter two technologys is more effective than the former for improving the recovery. Compared which on the view of the technique and the economic, the investment and the production cost of flowsheet of HIMS-flotation will be highest, the flowsheet of HIMS-gravity will be lower than that of the flowsheet of the HIMS-flotation, and the gravity concentration will be lowest. Make a comprehensive view to beneficiation performances and economy, technology of flowsheet combined HIMS and gravity concentration is recommended and should be used in the practical production.Based on the analysis of gravity concentration technology, the main measures for improving recovery are that:The particle size to +0.105mm in diameter should be by gravity concentration followed by grinding (the optimum grind mesh should be 80%/-0.074 mm); The particle size to-0.105mm in diameter should have been gravity concentration after classification; The middling by rough of the particle size to+0.050mm in diameter should be reseparated; The every particles hypo concentrate by shaking table concentration should be regrinded and reseparated; It is necessary to choose optimum pulp density and cubage, pulp density by spiral sluice concentration should be between 10% and 30%, and pulp density and cubage for coarse particle should be large relatively and for fine particle should be small relatively, pulp density by rough in contrast with cleaning should be low relatively. As for application of gravity concentration technology in the practical production, because shaking table and spiral sluice belong to film-equipment, the pulp layer should not too thick, it is not right to increase processing capacity by increasing the ore feed, but should add the beneficiation equipment.Based on the analysis of combined HIMS and gravity concentration technology, the main measures for improving recovery are that:The particle size to +0.105mm in diameter should be by gravity concentration followed by grinding, the optimum grind mesh is 80% /-0.074 mm in order to make the ilmenite be dissociated; The magnetic density of high intensity magnetic separation is up to 10000Oe at lest, the high density magnetic medium should be selected, and, The middling and hypo concentrate by shaking table concentration should be be regrinded and reseparated. As for application of HIMS and gravity concentration technology in the practical production, in order to reduce impact of fine mud on HIMS, preliminary desliming should be processed.Based on the analysis of combined HIMS and flotation technology, the main measures for improving recovery were indicated when the befitting reagent regimes and flotation under weak acidity condition determined. The best reagent dosage was studied:The oleic acid and salicylhydroxamic acid (3:1) as combined collector,1500g/t; Lead acetates, 200g/t; Sodium silicate,750g/t; CMC,500g/t, pulp density by flotation should be 20%. As for application of HIMS and flotation technology in the practical production, preliminary desliming should be processed all the same,in order to keep the grade of ilmenite concentrate, times of cleaning should increase.In the end this paper, through the mechanism of separaration procedures,it is believed that the recovery by gravity concentration for the ilmenite of fine particles was not more effective than HIMS and flotation, and the conclusion coincide with the results of tests.
