The block of Pan40 standing in the north west of Linpan oil field is a low-temperature heavy oil reservoir with bottom-water and gas-cap. Many wells are closed because of sand-flow and high-water cutting since its discovering from 1989 up to now, which leads to low reserve tapping efficiency, low recovery efficiency and poor development effect. Based on analysis about the reservoir characteristics and the production rule of Pan40 oil reservoir, With the methods of the sequence stratigraphy - origin stratigraphy and so on, Ng3-7 reservoir origin and the structure of individual sand body have been studied, which mainly include the origin phase, origin individual sand body, petrophysical property and distribution of barries, and the rhythm section distributing rule. Three dimensional reservoir model has been established; Based on dynamic and static data, the remaining oil distribution rule and the edge and bottom water coning have been studied by reservoir numerical simulation. The most severe water-cutting section is on the third rhythm, next is lower part of the second rhythm. The first rhythm section and upper part of the second rhythm section are abundant of remaining oil; Stop-wells are treated by using the superfine cement to plug perforated section, by adopting the method of large aperture and high-density perforating technology to reperforate the upper layer, and by the application of matching technology about chemical sand control of coated sand and mechnical sand control of high pressure packing sand control in slotted pipe; Horizontal wells are used in research and application of adjusting and oil potential tapping, which includes the optimization of horizontal wells'plane position, well pattern, horizontal segment size, measurement and control techniques of well trajectory, drilling mud performance, well completion method and the appliction of sidetrack drilling in horizontal wells; Due to the low formation temperature and the high viscosity of the crude oil, PAN40-P3, a horizontal well, which lies in high spot of the tectonic and is rich of remaining oil, was selected to have a steam soaking thermal recovery test. The success of the test has provided the experience for the steam soaking thermal recovery in horizontal wells. As a result, the rate of edge and bottom water coning has been reduced, utilization and recovery efficiency of oil wells have been enhanced. Daily oil capacity rose from 15 tons to 142 tons, the recovery efficiency increased from 7 percent to 15.4 percent. The recoverable reserves added 380,000 tons.
