Com-based Rural Social And Economic Statistics Thematic Map Symbol Design

Map symbol is the basis of visual presenting of geographic information and also an important component of GIS application.As figurative language,symbols can be very intuitive to show the content of the expression.Map symbol(same as map language) is a visual expression of the phenomenon of geography and a very important visualization tool as well as main form for readers to feel the phenomena of geography.My research on the topic of statistical research library symbols comes from the national "863"issue named "Rural socio-economic statistical information and analysis of space management system",which focuses on the Visualization of statistical research topics;As the rural socio-economic statistical indicators are complex and some of the rich statistical data is difficult to express,independence thematic symbol editing system for the rural areas socio-economic oriented is greatly needed.Statistics thematic symbolization is one of the most important aspects in thematic mapping process.The symbol system provides specialized statistical thematic symbols editing,management environment for the entire visualization system.On the basis of a comprehensive study about existing map symbol types and the characteristics,I have referred to mainstream GIS software symbolic modules,and conduct the realization of three types of thematic symbol COM interfaces,such as point,line and surface with VC++ to provide custom symbols for GIS application developing based on MapObjects.Finally,visualization and statistical theory of symbols is used practically in the rural socio-economic statistics visualization application,and the problems of the next step are given out.
