Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system that is used to collection, storage, management, deal, query and analysis of the geographic data. The geographic data is composed by spatial data and attribute data. 80 percent or above of the system data has its spatial property, Thus this involves to some question like the storage and query of spatial data, the efficiency of storage and query, as well as seamless organization attribute data and spatial data and so on. People try to resolve this problem in various way, thus they bring forward various solutions, and also each have merit and shortcoming. Thus, the GIS data model became a heat of research to order. The Object-Oriented techniques is current emphases with concern of the computer realms, and it is the mainstream of the software development. It not only has very great influence in the software engineering, but also all produces extensive and profound influence at each other application realms. People put forward Object-Oriented GIS while Combining The Object-Oriented techniques with GIS.In this thesis we analyzes the merit and shortcoming of several current GIS data model, point out various advantages of Object-Oriented GIS data model, and carry on detailed introduction to the GIS data organized form. As introducing on Object-Oriented basic theories in front basic elaborate, we put forward the possibility of getting it to combine with GIS. In the thesis, by the Object-oriented method, we study and explore deeply the data model of spatial object, the definition of semantics, the basic semantic relationship among objects, the basic spatial operation, topology structure and the organization of geographic data. And also we study the storage of data and the spatial index. Based on the above, we present the frame of the object-oriented GIS data model. In the end, we analysis and design an initial system base on the object-oriented GIS data model.
