China is a relatively developed karst areas. With the economic development, there are more and more projects of engineering construction in the karst area. This would trigger the karst geological issues such as the stability of karst foundation, karst leakage, karst cave, which is attracting more concern from people. At present, although the experts and scholars at home and abroad have made the many studies and has achieved many accomplishments and achievements in karst developmental conditions, causes, mechanisms, types, impact factors, karst topography, karst cave in, but studying engineering karst is still relatively weak. Based on the field investigation, exploration, test, the paper uses the latest theoretical basis karst geology, karst geological analysis methods and detection technology to study Pingguo Aluminum Storage Yard of Pingnan Red Mud systematacially and deeply and gain knowledge with the following main results :Firstly, the paper researches the developmental mechanism and the characteristic of region karst macroscopically, obtain the result that the karst growth of Pingguo aluminum area is controlled integratedly by five kinds of factor which is the lithological character, the structure, the ground water, Youjiang river (region karst water excretion reduced plane) and the new tectonic movement. Along with five kinds of factor to different combinations, it has formed the different karst landscape.Secondly, according to investigating, analyzing and researching the character of engineering geology in Storage Yard of Pingnan synthetically, the paper expatiates the character of karst shape, summarizes and discusses the character and the rule of karst development in Storage Yard of Pingnan. It gives the important criterion for constructing Storage Yard.Thirdly, the paper distinguishes and studies strictly the shallow karst (ground water vertical to follow in annulus karst) and the deep karst (ground water level followed in annulus karst) for the first time, cognize the difference between their shape essentially that the shallow karst relies mainly on the vertical corrosion and the deep karst relies mainly on the horizontal corrosion, which has the vital significance to research the engineering karst.Fourthly, the paper analyzes and researches the problem of karst leakage at Storage Yard. According to testing and researching, it finds out the type, the route and the direction of of karst leakage at the area, forecasts and evaluates the influence of leakage pollution, and gives the measure to preventing and curing the leakage. It can be the important guidance for designing and constructing the Yard.Finally, make new understanding to the karst basic theory. The current karst appraisal theory and the method nearly all are taken the horizontal limestone cave pattern as the foundation. Through researching the storage yard engineering karst of Pingguo aluminum systematacially, the paper will change the understanding of the karst phenomenon which in the past drilling met all stereotyped to regard as the limestone cave. It has the vital significance to the karst reconnaissance appraisal and karst foundation treatment.Anyway, the result of researching karst has not only the direct meaning and use value for the late engineer of Pingguo Aluminum and the other local construction, but also has the universal meaning and spread value for the common karst area. So it is important theoretically and practically.
