Earlier seismic observation systems always use analog seismic instruments. Using electronic feedback and digital technology in seismic instruments, it can broaden the bandwidth of observation signals and widen dynamic range of seismic records. Digital seismometer transmits seismic signals to data acquisition system (DAS) to guarantee the quality and prolong the distance of communications. In the thesis, the study and design of seismic Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) solve some important problems in digital seismometer's communications field. The chip was fabricated in 0.18 CMOS process technology in HeJian Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, and the results of simulation and synthesis show it meets the current and future needs of seismic communications. The first of this paper summaries the advantages and disadvantages between the analog and digital communication systems, and analyzes the significance of switching from analog seismic to digital seismic and designing seismic ASIC. The chapter two introduces the architecture, including modules partition and communication protocol design. So the next four chapters focus on some important module of the system architecture, such as communication interface with CPU, asynchronous FIFO, CRC codes, Reed-Solomon codes, interleaver, circuits which transmit and receive, and the core controller. In the final two chapters, the digital ASIC design flow, the chip's simulation and synthesis results, the work results and some next research suggestions are present in brief.
