Yangtze River is the first longest river of China, whose Middle and lower reaches flow through the densely populated and economically developed area. This article takes remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) as a foundation, uses the advanced software developing technology, and designs much better - formidable "the Yangtze River remote sensing monitoring system" based on the component, with which we can Monitor the dynamic change of the Yangtze River lastingly and quickly , and extract large-range ground information to save the massive investments and provide reference datas for the special department analyzing and deciding. The main contents of this article are as follows:1. To introduce the aims and importance of this article , to discuss the application of RS technology in monitoring around the world, to analyze the current situation of the remote sensing monitoring system.2. To make mention of the basic theories of building the system, basic theories of RS , GIS and computer application.3. To represent the processes of designing and finishing the system, principles and methods of building the system, the structure and function of the built system, and elaborate the shoreline extraction module and shoal vegetation extraction module.4. To take Yangtze River Jiangsu Reach to confirm the reliability of the system. To input three images of 2002 to the system extracting the riverway information, and output the final figures from the system .From the above we draw the conclusion: To use the "the Yangtze River remote sensing monitoring system" to extract the riverway information based on Yangtze River Jiangsu Reach shows the system runs well, the jamming factors are few, and has the effective, shortcut and large-range advantages; While, this system needs being advanced in future .
