AbstractNumerical simulation of detonation is to apply appropriate numerical methods to calculate the complicated detonation process of fluid dynamics coupled with chemical reaction. The study of numerical scheme is always concerned in the numerical simulation of detonation. In this paper, we applied CTVD scheme, a high-resolution shock-capturing scheme, to numerical simulation of detonation in heterogeneous explosives. With Lee-Tarver's ignition and growth model employed, a simple and practical method for detonation simulation is constructed. The relation between detonation configuration and mesh size, CFL number was investigated. And also the stiffness problem of hyperbolic partial differential equation caused by the source term was studied.Simulations of detonation problem in heterogeneous explosives of PBX-9404 and TATB have been performed. High resolution of detonation wave and high accuracy in smooth solution region are obtained. Especially for the complicated equation of states, numerical results exhibit the simplicity, efficiency, and high resolution again of the CTVD scheme.
