It is very significant for enhancing efficiency of petroleum exploration and reducing its risk to characterize tectonic movement and geo-structure model and trap formation precisely. That is also the target of all modern oil companies. This dissertation tries to reach an integrated methodology and philosophy for geo-structure interpretation using the example of the marine sequence of CHENGHU area in JIANGHAN basin, China. Synthesizing seismic record and velocity evaluation and balance key seismic section and reprocess seismic data and apply powerful workstation software are the main steps taken in the study of this dissertation. The gravity and magnetic and electric survey data together with 2D seismic sections have also been used to dedicate the structure interpretation. The modern tectonic theory of Foreland Basins and Fold Belts are applied in this dissertation to analyses tectonic movement and structure model. Base on the above research, this dissertation indicates that the marine sequence of CHENGHU area in JIANGHAN basin is stratigraphic characterized of three hard stratum and two soft stratum packing intersectedly. Eight third grade tectonic components are identified in the marine sequence of CHENGHU area in JIANGHAN basin.The structure types can be classified in solitary thrust and intervened thrust, while the traps are types of bolds related to faults, such as fault bended folds and fault stretched folds and fault slide folds. Ten local structures are interpreted, and the potential of petroleum in these local structures are evaluated.
