Popper Realism Research

Karl.R.Popper is one of the most notable philosopher of science of the last century. His disputable studies involve logic and probability theory, methodology, evolutionary epistemology , quantum physics and philosophy of sociology and politics. Chinese scholars have attached importance to Popper's thoughts and have studied on that subject for many years. An important premise for better understanding of Popper's thoughts on philosophy of science is to learn and to estimate his realism accurately.This paper discussed Popper's realism from the following three aspects: commonsense realism, realism view on truth and theory on w3.Commonsense realism is an ontological creed of Popper's philosophy ,for he consider that realism is not certifiable and can not be refuted. His theory on verisimilitude is a theory on the end of science. The end of science in Popper's point of view is to approach the truth but not to seek for absolute truth. So he hold his realism by developing his theory on verisimilitude. His theory on w3 is an ontological theory which have close relationship with evolutionary epistemology. We could conclude from the former three aspects that Popper's realism is irrational, though he called himself a critical rationalist. He could not insist on realism on the base of rationalism, for there is real conflict between realism and his methodology. The contradiction of different parts of his theory leads to his irrational realism and the failure of his philosophy of science.
