This thesis mainly concentrates on the orientations of the spin vectors (SVs) with different samples of the field galaxies in the Local Supercluster (LSC) and of the galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, with the context of the origin and formation of galaxies and clusters. We also statistically studied the intrinsic flatness of the disk galaxies. The thesis contains following main parts: (1) the intrinsic flatness of disk galaxies has been statistically analyzed based on 14,988 disk galaxies taken from the LEDA database. (2) Base on the complete sample of 178 spiral galaxies in the Virgo cluster given by Fouque et al. (1990), the SV orientation distribution of the spiral galaxies with known galactic inclinations is studied. (3) Using our newly generated qo-T relation, the SVs of the disk galaxies in the Virgo cluster are studied. (4) Two methods are applied in the SV calculation for the sample of 220 field galaxies that are strictly selected from the Photometric Atlas of Northern Bright Galaxies in order to analyze the SV orientation distribution of the field galaxies in our sample. |
