High performance ion exchange chromatography was applied in studying qualitatively and quantitatively of bacteria, which was shown as follows:Firstly, physio-biochemical characteristics of bacteria was investigated by ion exchange chromatography. For the first time spores and nutrient of Bacillus pumilus had been separated successfully by chromatography. Chromatographial behaviors of bacteria at different cultivating environment and different growth phase were also studied.Secondly, chromatographial behaviors of mixed bacteria were studied in this paper. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of every bacterium in mixed system was done on line. We determine the growth process and mutual relationship of three bacteria, i.e. photosynthetic bacteria, E.coli KI2 and ETEC 987P. Relationship between pathogenic bacteria in water, Aeromonas hydrophiJa, and phoiosynthetic bacteria was studied emphatically. The result showed that when inoculating quantity of phoiosynthetic bacteria was one fifth of that of Aeromonas hydrophila, the growth of latter bacteria could be inhibited distinctly. Finally, avirulent and virulent plant, bacteria of Pseudomonas Solanaceanim was investigated by chromatography. The result showed that there are two peaks when both bacteria was eluted, but their peak area ratio was quite different. When virulent bacteria was subject to chromatography after vibration by ultrasonic wave, both chromatographial behaviors of both avirulent and virulent Pseudomonas Solanaceanim were same basically, which showed a equilibrial peak and a eluting one. Electron microscopy showed that virulent Pseudomonas Solanaceanim grown in gathering form and avirulent Pseudomonas Solanaceanim did in free form. So that two different monomers were estimated to comprise Pseudomonas SolanaceanimThe research above will expand application of traditional HPLC and deepen its potential in bacteria studying. The method can be as a potent supplementary means for studying bacteria.
