This paper is concentrated on theoretical, experimental and simulational studies on light scattering characterization of the statistical properties of random surface and the phase distribution of speckle field .The whole paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 gives a summary of the fUndamental theories of light scattering, the statisiical properties of random surface and a review for the advancement in phase vortices of speckle field. Chapter 2 proposes an experimental method for measuring the roughness parameter a of random scattering screen, which is based on the linear relationship between the logarithm of the frill-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of the light scattering intensity profiles and the logarithm of the pexpendicular component of wave vector whose variation is induced by changing the wavelength of ~ laser.. The roughness parameter a is extracted by setting up the corresponding experimental measuring system and the result is well coincided with the value measured by Atom Force Microscope. Chapter 3 proposes an experimental method for extracting the height probability distribution function of rough surfaces, which is based on the relationship between the central 6-peak intensity of the light scattering profiles and the wave vector. The phase retrieval algorithm is used to recover the phase of the Fourier transform of the height probability function. Then by the inverse Fourier transfonm the height probability function is obtained.. This method is even valid for rough surfaces with asymmetrical Ii Abstract height probabilities. In chapter 4 , the properties of the phase probability distribution of speckle field generated by random surface with Gaussian correlation are studied by computational simulations. It is manifested that the phase probability distribution of speckle field is veiy sensitive to the roughness w of the scattering surface. When w is small, an uneven distribution of the phase of the speckle fields occurs. In chapter 5, both the intensity and the phase vortex patterns of the speckle field produced by the random surface with Gaussian correlation are simulated. The optical phase vortices, a kind of singularity in speckle phenomena, are specially studied. The result shows that intensity and phase vortex distribution of speckle field are coherently related. Under certain conditions, there exists a veiy obvious law in the spatial distribution of the intensity and phase vortices of the speckle field。...
