Because the happening and evolution of small-scale and mesoscale weather systems often relates to the rotations and divergences of atmosphere, a method named Vorticity-divergence Method of retrieving three-dimensional wind fields is put forward. In the method, the equation of vorticity is simplified and combined with the definitions of vorticity and divergence , and then restrained by the equation of continuity to set the system of retrieval equations. Three-dimensional wind vector, vorticity and divergence can be got by solving the system of equations. Preliminary test has proved that it is feasible. In this paper, the impacts of terminal fall velocity of precipitation particles, boundary condition, and retrieval algorithm are considered to develop the method on base of before work. Both a simulation test and the case study of the precipitation course at June 9% 1998 are done. Results under three kinds of boundary conditions are compared simultaneously in the test. It is proved by the tests that the method is feasible to retrieve three- dimensional wind fields at real time, and that the results is bettered after the method is developed. Finally, an application of filtering mean wind from derived wind fields through combing this method and the VAD method is put forward preliminarily in this paper.
