Thirty-seven lichen species of the families Ncphromataceae and Pcltigcraccae, belonging to the genera Nephmma (5X Peltigera (26), and Solorina (6), are reported from China, on the basis of identification of more than 2500 specimens deposited in HMAS-L, HKAS, and LFP. Nephmma bellum, Peltigera I&istirzssonii and P ponojemis are reported as new to China. Detailed descriptions and discussions on morphology cheniislry, habitat and distribution in China of each species and keys to families, genera and species are presented. Destribution maps and photographs of each species are also provided. A database for Chinese lichen species of the families Peltigcraccae and Ncphromataccae is established. The species of Nephromataceae and Peltigeraceac of China mainly distribute in the altiplano, mountainous region and hills with an elevation higher than 500m above sea level, and only fewer species occur in the plain near or lower than 500m above sea level. Geographical analysis of the species in different regions of China showed the different results concerning the numbers of species. Thirty-three species occur in Southwest China (constituting 89.1% of the total number of the species in China), 27 (72.9%) in Northeast China, 21 (56.8%) in Northwest China, 15 (40.5%) in Shcnnonjia region, 14 (37.8%) in both Qnling and Taihang-Yan mountainous regions, and in North China Plain-Middle and Lower Reaches Plain of the Yangtze-Southeast Hills region. The cast Asian species Peltigera pruinosa, P continentalis and P nigripunctata are mainly from Southwest China and never found in other regions of China, with an exception of the third one extending to Northeast China (see map 6 for more details).
