The wire rope is made of some high bearing capacity, density and spiral wire bundles. The wire rope has high strength and good softness features, so it is widely used in mine production, medical, communication, marine, transportation, precision measurement, aerospace and other areas. Wire rope product has complex structure which makes wire rope strands be loaded uneven. Therefore, to study the load distribution in wire rope has significance to design, usage and maintenance of wire rope products.Firstly, mechanical properties of wire rope have been investigated. By the static experiment of the right lang lay 6×19S + FC wire rope, the drawing, torsion and bending data of wires are obtained. By the static experiment of the right regular lay 6×19S + FC wire rope, the drawing, torsion and bending data of wires are obtained. By the statistical analysis of the data, the influence of the lay ways on its mechanical properties is investigated.Secondly, the spatial structure of wire rope is studied systematically in this paper. The spiral model of wire rope is established by using differential geometrical theory. On this base, the calculation method of design is obtained. The model of the right lang lay 6×7IWS, the right regular lay 6×7IWS, the right lang lay 6×19S + FC and the right regular lay 6×19S + FC are established by Solidworks soft-ware. Under the same boundary conditions, the analysis of wire stress and wire rope stress by ANSYS soft-ware. The test data and numerical simulation results show that the mechanics performance of right regular lay wire rope is better the right lang lay wire rope.
