Urban land intensive utilization is the essential channel to relieve contradicts between currently our country cities economic and social development land needs and cultivated land protects, also an inherent request of promoting our country cities healthy development and land sustainable use. Launching the work of intensive utilization evaluation of urban land, finding out the actuality and main problems of urban land intensive utilization, studying the countermeasure of improving the degree of city land intensive utilization, are beneficial to city land utilization reasonableness degree rise and land resources optimization deploy, make a city develop in a benign way.Based on studying current situation at home and abroad in depth, this paper probed into the aim and the meaning of urban land intensive utilization, the research contents, the research methods and the technical line, and also introduced the expert, principles, relatable conceptions of urban land intensive utilization and the basic theories of the evaluation methods which included PCA and AHP. On the basic of finding out the general situation and the urban land utilization state of the three cities around Dongting lake, the index system of evaluation was fixed on. Then the author made the evaluation of Yueyang, Yiyang and Changde with PCA and AHP respectively depending on the same index system. Study results indicate that the trend of land intensive utilization degree of the three cities of Dongting Lake district rise unceasingly in the year between 2004-2008. On the basic of comparing the evaluation results, the author analyzed the application of PCA and AHP deeply, and then put forward the measures to make urban land utilization in intensive way.
