As one of four Buddhist holy sites in China, Mountain Wutai was very famous as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty. After 2000 years, it has been successfully included in the list of world cultural heritage landscape. It has won the crown of ace product of foreign tourism. And it becomes the hot scenic in China's warming tourism. Tourists flocked, who increased from 85 million in 2000 to 380 million in 2007. The annual growth rate is 42.14%. So the load of the tourism resources has been increasing. Therefore, Mount Wutai Scenic selected the approach of eco-tourism in order to reduce the pressure on the resources and environment and realize the balance and stable development among the resources and environment, the economic growth and the social development. In theory, eco-tourism is a sustainable form of tourism that can achieve the harmony among resource and environment, economic and society. In practice, however, eco-tourism has not really achieved the sustainable development of tourism. A large number of eco-tourism destinations just use the eco-tourism as a slogan to attract tourists. Therefore, how to measure the eco-tourism at Mountain Wutai Scenic is really to achieve the sustainable development of tourism? Which stage of sustainable development of tourism is it at? What are the poor areas in the process of sustainable development? How can improve its sustainable level of development? These issues have the important guiding significance and reference value in the development of eco-tourism at Mountain Wutai Scenic in the future.
