The Impacts Of Technology Choice On Productive Income Of Apple Growers

With the apple industry entering into the particular stage of the steady expansion of production, the income of the apple growers changes as their technological demands gradually evolve into multiple selective behaviors on the basis of the factors and the market. Therefore, the impacts of technology choice on productive income of apple growers is the important study field both in the technical benefit analyses and the effective supply of public technology.The current empirical studies, regarding the influences of the technology on the average income of farmers by OLS and statistical data, have been done, and fail to dig deep into this problem by focusing on one certain type of agricultural industry. By using the induced technical innovation along with quantile regression model, and based on the first-hand household-level survey data from fruit growers in Luochuan County, Shaanxi Province, this dissertation makes an indepth study of the effects of the characteristics of the technology choice on productive income of apple growers, in an attempt to put forward some policy implications.To clarify the mechanism of the influences of the technology choice on the productive income of apple growers from a theoretical perspective, a tentative income analysis framework of growers was constructed considering labor force,technology preference and factor inputs, and then two assumptions are proposed: (1) A decreasing in the productive income of fruit growers following an increasing in the burden rate of per grower;(2) Whether the technology can enhance income depends on the comparison of the technology effect and corresponding unit cost of factor.On the basis of theory analysis, the data derived from the survey in Luochuan County, Shaanxi Province, were analyzed by descriptive statistics and the quantile regression method to verify the preceding assumptions. It is concluded that: (1)The income gap of apple growers is apparent ;(2) The burden rate of per grower has a negative effect on the productive income of fruit growers; (3) Machinery-using technology plays a distinct negative role in the productive income of apple growers, while labor-using technology positively affects the marginal returns of growers ,especially the lower ones.According to the study above, it is most desirable for the government supports to focus on the perfection of public service system.
