A Research To The Mechanism And Adjustment Methods Of Urban Sprawl Of Chengdu

Urban sprawl as a bad phenomenon in the urban spatial expanding,1st occurred in America during 1920s-1930s, and got a quick development after the world warâ…¡. Urban sprawl depletes lots of resource, destroys environment, makes developments more traffic-dependent, and harms the health and security of human body, seriously threats the sustainable development of urban.As a large central city in western China, in recent years the rapid expansion of urban space, urban sprawl phenomenon has been occurred in Chengdu. In this paper, Chengdu, as the research object, from the phenomenon of urban sprawl measure and cost analysis, through an integrated research, discussed the formation mechanism of urban sprawl, and putted forward some measures to control the urban sprawl of Chengdu, the results that:(1) After 1990s, the urban sprawl grew to some extent in Chengdu, and come into the high-speed phase as the development of the west regions and upsurge of real estate. Urban sprawl increases three sorts of cost, including economic cost,social cost and environment's cost. As urban sprawl advances, public cost and personal cost increased, the efficiency of land lowed, farmland has been decreased, environment pollution, climate significantly changed, traffic deteriorated, public safety decreased, social segregation rose, and these seriously threat the sustainable development of Chengdu.(2) Seven mechanisms, including the basis of urban geography, the economic rapid development, traffic development, real estate development, information technology development, the adjustment of local regionalism, land and urban planning system.(3) To effectively control tendency of urban sprawl in Chengdu, we needs start from the starting consciousness, system and the operation level, stress sustainable development awareness and take the Smart Growth of the development of roads, optimizing space layout, correctly guide the real estate development, building sustainable urban transport patterns, at the same time innovation and improve the land system and urban planning system.
