Design And Implementation Of A XBRL-based Financial Analysis System For Listed Companies

Financial analysis refers to an assessment of the viability, stability and profitability of a business.It is often performed by professionals who prepare reports using ratios that make use of information taken from financial statements and other reports. Based on these reports, investors could make decisions of investing on stocks. But in along time, due to the inconvience of accessing to financial report, the general investors could not execute financial analysis on the stocks they concernd in time.XBRL stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language. XBRL is a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data which is revolutionising business reporting around the world. It provides major benefits in the preparation, analysis and communication of business information. It offers cost savings, greater efficiency and improved accuracy and reliability to all those involved in supplying or using financial data. The Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) have rolled out XBRL information service platforms for listed companies. The platforms serve small and medium investors, were based on XBRL standardized data and were incorporated with functions such as display, analysis and download of listed companies'information.In the resear works of this paper, we developed a financial analysis system for listed companies, which based on the XBRL reports could be accessed freely. The system havs four main founctions as follow:1. Importing of XBRL reports, input the XBRL report files and store them in database or file system.2. Parsing of XBRL reports, parse the XBRL report files by using a XML parser and obtain the finiancial indicators.3. Customizng of financial analysis, investors often have different aims of financial analysis, such as focus on Profitability, Liquidity, and Stability-, by selecting of finiancial indicators and describing of analysis rules, a customized financial analysis service could be generated.4. Utiliting of financial analysis services, investors could input or search XBRL reports in this system and execute an analysis service selecte on specific listed companies. In this paper, analysis of XBRL specification and description of financial analysis model are given at first. Then, the requirement of XBRL-based financial analysis system is given too. Based on the deep comprehension of XBRL reports and financial analysis requirements, the system architecture and functions are designed as well as the database table structures. At last, a prototype system and several snapshots are shown to demonstrate the main ideas of the researches.
