The Study On The Impact Of Environmental Regulations On The Foreign Trade Of Jiangsu Province

In recent decades, in the context of economic globalization, international trade has been developed rapidly. At the same time, the frequent appear of some environmental problems has gained much attention. Environmental protection and foreign trade development are both very critical factors of improve people's living standard and promote the development of economic and social. In order to protect natural environment and people's health, countries and regional organizations have adopted many environmental regulations. In this background, some Environmental Barriers develops as another kind of non-tariff barrier. Environmental regulations and trade issue has become a new topic in the academic area of international trade in recent years.Jiangsu province is a strong province of international trade. In its' process of international trade development and environmental protection, it has to face the issue of trade and environment. Weather the environmental regulations will have some impacts on foreign trade development? This issue is of great significance. The settle of this issue will help us to coordinate environment and trade relations, realize the sustainable development of foreign trade and realize the win-win situation of environment and trade in Jiangsu province.This paper includes six chapters. The first chapter is introduction in which we summaries and analysis relevant study of environment and trade issue, and brought forward the meaning and purpose of this paper.The second chapter introduced the emergence and development, relevant conception and theories of environmental regulations and trade. And then analyses the influences of environmental regulations on foreign trade. It can be summaries as four effects: cost effect, innovation effect, structure effect, and market access effect.The third chapter analyses the situation of foreign trade and environmental regulations of Jiangsu province. And then analysis the impact of foreign trade on the natural environment of Jiangsu province.The fourth chapter is empirical research of this issue. By setting up a model of environmental regulation on stringency (ERS), we get ERS index of Jiangsu province. And then we set up a regression model to analysis the relation of environmental regulations and foreign trade.The fifth chapter suggests the approaches of coordinate the development of environmental regulations and foreign trade of Jiangsu province.The last chapter is the conclusion and prospects of this paper.This paper's main conclusions are summaries as follows:(1) Jiangsu province have taken many measures to protect the natural environment;(2) The impact of environmental regulations on foreign trade can't be simplysummaries as positive or negative. It determined by the total influence of the four effects;(3) The results of the empirical analysis show that the environmental regulations has positive influence on foreign trade in Jiangsu province;(4) If we reduce the negative effects and increase the positive effects of theenvironmental regulations on foreign trade, it is possible for us to realize the win-win situation of environment and foreign trade.
