Leisure Research On Chinese Holiday System After The Founding Of PRC

As a welfare policy, holiday system legally protects the basic right of people, which is characteristic of human-oriented feature. Today, while China is on the road of "leisure age", holiday system becomes the main means of resources allocation to support each citizen sharing the common right of leisure. Now, holiday system should be embraced by leisure studies, which both provides research approach for it and guides the direction of furthering reform of the holiday system. Combining the historical analysis with logical reasoning the thesis historically investigates the evolving process of holiday system from home and abroad, especially detailed examines several important stages of reform and then logically deduces the optimal policy of holiday.Firstly, this paper discusses the meaning of the leisure and leisure studies, what surveys the various definitions of leisure from home and abroad and describes its features, functions, values as well as theoretical perspective of the key concept - 'To be" in leisure studies are serve as the theoretical bases of researching holiday system in the field of leisure studies.Secondly, the thesis examines all aspects of holiday system from home and abroad, such as its implications, functions and historical origin, which helps to clear its trail of development. It finds the common grounds in humanistic features between leisure and holiday system. The principle of justice and fair as well as public interest priority enhance the value of leisure with Chinese characteristics being shaped. "To be"-the humanistic dimension of holiday system is established to achieve the transition from "dissimilation" to "humanization".Thirdly, holiday system has experienced the 3 important stages since 1949 up to 1999. The first stage is featured by "Politicalization" from 1949 to 1966, making comment on leisure lives of all the citizens. The second phase is boasted by "Revolutionization" from 1966 to 1976, which changed the condition of people's leisure lives. The third stage is characteristics of "accelerating reform" from 1978 to 1998, which spurred the changes of their life styles and caused collision with traditional leisure values. In that period, leisure awareness and humanistic values came into being. In 1999, "Unitary Week-off' system witnessed the substantial changes of people's vocational mode, through the analysis of its design concept, basic framework and the pros and cons of implementation. It attained the comprehensive and profound reading and reflection to "Unitary Week-off' system, which would give an opportunity to achieve its leisure transformation of holiday system.With the implementation of the new system and "On Paid-off" system, "Unitary Week-off' system, a rigid holiday system is gradually reformed into the flexible holiday system. Gathering the rigid policies with flexible ones, holiday system manifests the humanistic feature.Finally, through the analysis of holiday system from 1949 up to now in the circle of leisure studies, that serves as the basic research in theory and policy to make goals of system innovation featuring people-orientation and leisure sharing by all the citizens. In addition to drawing other scholar's research, its innovative ways to holiday system come into form by the means of the analysis and reasoning, including innovation in vocational duration and concentration. It plays a important role in attaining a reasonable holiday system, which is stamped with harmonizing rigid provisions and flexible ones, shaping people through excellent culture.
