Central China, which is centered as Henan Province, is the birthplace of Chinese civilization. The civil toys, which are rooted in this yellow ground have a long history. Their rich varieties are known for the world. As the living fossil which recorded the life, history and culture of Central China, they are pure and simple, filled with thousands of natural spirits, flashing the creative intelligence of Central Chinese People. However, this traditional culture is gradually declining due to the rapid development of society. After the reform and opening up, foreign toys caused great impact on Chinese traditional toys. The toy business led by Europe, USA and Japan occupied the majority of market share in China. The high market income made by modern toy industry brought a survival crisis to the traditional toys. Excellent culture is the carrier of the national spirit, every Chinese has the duty to save, protect, pass on, inherit and promote the national culture. Under the pressure of modern toy industry, how the traditional folk toys catch up with the trend and pace of time development and glow the bright brilliance? It needs our research and discussion.From a historical and cultural point of view, this paper discusses the distinct characteristics, classification and distribution of traditional folk toys in central China.
