The Study Of Seoul Metropolitan Area's Urban Development In South Korea During The 1960s To 1990s

South Korea's economy had started to take off from the 1960s, at the same time South Korea's urbanization had rapidly started, its rapid development in the East Asian model had attracted worldwide attention. As a representation of South Korea's urbanization, the Seoul metropolitan area experienced a wave of rapid growth, rapid expansion of city size and urban facilities, continuous improvement of urban planning and legislation. The Seoul metropolitan area of Korea has developed into one of the super-large metropolitan areas in East Asia at the end of 1990s. It takes a very important position in South Korea's economic and social life.Since South Korea's centralization of power is very powerful, it imposed a great impact on the development of the Seoul metropolitan area. This effect had a positive impact, but also had a negative role. The development of the Seoul metropolitan area is not smooth sailing, and have had many problems which to be the Government. The research of the development of Seoul metropolitan area, is more conducive to a comprehensive understanding of metropolitan area's development patterns and problems, and more practical helpful on our urban construction.However, like the academic research of South Korean city, the academic research of Seoul metropolitan area in China is focused on the economic field, and neglected of urban problems. The driving force for the power of development, the protection of law and urban problems studies is weak, so there is a need to research these issues.In this paper, the background of the development, the dynamic of the development, emerging problems and the issue of governance are three different chapters. Chapter one talked about the concept and nature of the Seoul metropolitan area, and explored the historical background of its development. Chapter two is an analysis of the three reasons of Seoul metropolitan area's development. Chapter three is devoted to the development problems which including the industry's issues, population issues, traffic problems, etc. and a summary of the South Korean government's management. The concluding part summarized the characteristics and experiences of the Seoul metropolitan area, and made an outlook of the development of metropolitan for both Korea and Asia. This paper attempts to give a more comprehensive analysis of the development of Seoul metropolitan area, through the interpretation of its development process, and the analysis of its dynamic mechanism and development problems.
