Research On The Comparative Advantage Of China's Agricultural Products And Trade Protection Measures Under WTO Framework

Agricultural products trade plays an important part in China's foreign trade, which influences the healthy development of national economy, all-round construction of well-off society and social stability and harmony. China has kept foreign trade deficit since 2004 and the value rose to 18.16 billion US dollars in 2008. It is very urgent to improve the competitiveness of China's agricultural products by adjusting and perfecting agricultural products trade protection measures. Firstly, this paper empirically analyzed on the comparative advantage of China's agricultural products between 2002 and 2007, and the main results are as followed: most China's agricultural products do not have comparative advantage; China's labor-intensive and processed agricultural products are better than land-intensive agricultural products in comparative advantage; the trade pattern of China's agricultural products is relatively stable. Secondly, this paper studied the influences on the comparative advantage of agricultural products with China's reality and believed factor endowment; agricultural policy and marketing system of agricultural products are the main influences. Finally, this paper put forward the strategies for adjusting and perfecting China's agricultural products trade protection measures based on the WTO agricultural rules and the agricultural products trade protection measures of developed countries.
