The sustainable development of a corporation represents a mutual interaction, reliance and incorporated development of a corporation with its natural and social environment, founding on "economical, environmental and societal" aspects. This is the basic meaning of sustainable development of a corporation. The sustainable development of an industry, firstly relies on the sustainable development of corporations within it, secondly is affected by the guidance, policy of it, and general procedure of operations in corporations within it, and sometimes is influenced by the developing mode of this industry in different cities and regions. In this thesis, the condition of sustainable development of construction industry is studied, concerning the fact of increasingly intense energy supply and severe pollution problems in china, and big energy cost and pollution problems of construction industry as well, thus three issues of sustainable development in construction industry are focused. The three issues are: (1) a life cycle assessment of comparison between steel-framed residential structures and concrete ones from energy cost and environmental aspects; (2) the on-site meterage and recording of energy cost and environmental effect in construction projects; (3) the treating and recycling issues of construction by-products. These three issues focused on some particular environmental aspects in application of sustainable development theory in construction industry from the view of the industry, corporations and cities. Two model buildings representing steel-framed residential structure and concrete-framed residential structure are selected to research the energy cost and environmental effect, taking account of the technical and economic conditions of china, with the relevant research abroad taken as reference, the assessment of the choice of two structures are made from energy cost and environmental aspects, the conclusion is steel-framed structure has less on-site energy cost and on-site pollution but costs much more energy in material manufacturing phase. Investigations of the meterage and recording works of on-site energy cost and environmental effect in construction projects are taken, and the on-site environmental management in some construction projects in Beijing is observed, concerning the situation in china and the meterage and recording systems abroad, the practical and meaningful meterage and recording method for chinese construction companies are suggested. Investigations of corporations and relevant administration government are taken in the research of construction by-products treating and recycling issue, Beijing is chosen as the representative city for the research of construction by-products treating and existing problems are raised; the application and economic feasibility of treating and recycle operations for construction by-products are clarified with simulant case study.
