New technologies representing by Information Technology and Biotechnology have produced a far-reaching impact on economics all over the world since the 20th century. IT has provided new ways for enterprise's operation and management activities, changes the business environment, and has already become an essential means to obtain competitive advantages. However, the true business value of IT has not yet come to a consistent conclusion, research is turning its attention to the broader issue of key factors which affect the intensity of IT impacts.By using publicly available information of listed manufacturing companies, this dissertation discusses the following questions: (1) Can IT investment improve firm's financial and value performance? (2)How strategies influence the business value of IT investment? Results of empirical analysis indicate that IT investment can improve firm performance significantly; In the linkage of IT and firm performance, strategy moderates IT impacts, strategic orientations with greater marketing intensity and lower risk disposition will lead to stronger impact of IT on performance. But the expected positive effects of operating efficiency and innovativeness are not found, maybe it reflects the particular situation in IT construction in China.This study helps us to verify that whether the previous research results of IT investment, strategies and performance can be accepted under Chinese circumstances. Further more, we can also get some valuable empirical evidences of IT investment for Chinese enterprises.
