Using The Strategic Sustainable Development Framework To Enhance Sustainable Forest Management With The Platform Of FSC Certification

Forest is an important resource as well as a vital component of the nature. It plays a important role in the whole biosphere. Historically, China forestry served as the habitation, wood resource and economic foundation. Today, China's forests become even more important, however, they are facing increasingly serious situations such as deforestation, poor forest management and unsustainable utilization. The conflicts between increasing needs of forest resources from human society and decreasing world forested area pose growing amounts of pressure in our system. It is high time for our society to take actions to solve this problem. Adopting different strategies to make the forest resources sustainable is critical.Nowadays sustainable forest management is a universal way of creating the systematic changes required to achieve Sustainability. Forest certification is a well developed and accepted tool to facilitate forest management moving towards Sustainability. There are many schemes of forest certification, this paper mainly focuses on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification and how to integrate it into China's forest management practices, in order to facilitate China's forest management getting approach to Sustainability.The concept of Strategic Sustainable Development (SSD) was introduced in this paper and the Framework of Strategic Sustainable Development (SSDF) was employed on case study analysis as basic conceptual framework. Firstly, the author examined China's forestry and FSC certification elements in general under the lens of SSD, helping readers to identify the gaps between the current reality of China forestry and the future: Sustainable Forest Management, as well as the sustainable characteristics of FSC certification and its possibility for facilitating China's forest management move towards Sustainability. Secondly, this research discussed how to apply SSDF for helping Chinese forest management units to establish Strategic Sustainable Forest Management Planning with the using of FSC certification principles as strategies.
