Along with economy development based on 2008 Olympics in Beijing and 2010 Expo in Shanghai, more and more famous international hotel groups are coming into China to develop their hotels in an exceptional speed now. During recent years Chinese hotel industry has been developing fast, and chain operation has become one of the important trends of the hotel industry. Because of the short history of the development of hotel group chain, we lack of in-depth research and analysis on the management of hotel group chain, as well as on the expansion of the hotel group chain. This paper discusses the spatial expansion from the macro standpoint, including motive mechanism,distribution characteristic as well as the operational pattern. It also discusses with the points of the theories of the industry cluster and transnational corporations. It will be more advantageous to understand the essence of space motion of hotel group chains.It can be concluded in the following points:I. Seeking of more economic benefits is the inner motivation of the expansion of the hotel group.II. The Hotel Group expands in the ways of joint venture, lease and management contract, etc, which can help hotel group expand itself speedily as well as reduce the cost and utilize its resources such as the brands, sales network and so on. So group-operation is the trend of developing hotel industry.III. The international hotel groups expand with the normal patterns of the transnational corporations, while they also expand with the special patterns which are suitable for themselves.IV. The Hotel Group can use the multi-brand strategy to gain more market share of the industry and earn more revenue with more market segments.V. These patterns can be applied by hotel groups according to their strategy and markets segments.VI. The Hotel Group should change the patterns of expansion in accordance to the changes of the entire environment...
