Spatial Differences Of Urban Economics And Development In The Drainage Areas Of Yellow Rive

The cities along the drainage areas of The Yellow River, where have many differences in the nature, have long civilized histories. Nowerdays, the development of the city economy appears larger differences, the economic spatial differences and synergic development in the areas have being become the hotspot among people. The past research about the drainage areas of The Yellow River or the province-level city economy in the area emphasizes particularly on the nature, resource, transport and location to illustrate the spatial structure of city economy and thus, using the advantages of different regions'resources and industries may realize the cooperation of the economy along drainage areas. Along with more and more people knowing about the importance of the agglomeration economy to the economic active location, the traditional view that the differences are mainly determined by the nature and resources is rectified. Based on the increased scale return and monopoly competetion, the new economic geography theory constructs an integrated spatial difference model of city economic from spatial"homogenization"to"non- homogenization", which makes use of the mutual action of the relating effects and transport costs. The empirical research of new economic geography centres on the discussion of"where and why aggregates", however, there are fewer researches deal with the topic that how agglomeration economy affects the spatial difference of the economic development.Based on the GIS technology and spatial difference index, the paper discusses the patternes, courses and rules of spatial difference, thus analyses the character and influencing factors of city economic spatial difference along the drainage areas of The Yellow River. Combining the two theoretical perspectives about the research of economic spatial difference mentioned above, the study explaines the reasons of the spatial difference of city economic development along the drainage areas of The Yellow River from the view of natural advantage and agglomeration economy. The paper includes five parts.Chapter one introduces the development background of the city economy along the drainage areas of The Yellow River, reviews correlative literatures, imports the cut-in point and puts forward the research framework of the study.Chapter two compares the natural regional differences of the city economic development along the drainage areas of The Yellow River and uses GIS technology to analyse the spatial differences of the economic scale and the economic level in per capita. Then, the part summarizes the spatial difference patterns and confirms current or potential growing pole, growing axis and development core area.Chapter three uses the spatial difference index and the index decompose means to analyse the city economy's general differencing evolvement courses and its traits, exhibition and its traits, the influencing factors and so on along the drainage areas of The Yellow River since the year of 1984. In addtio, that new city's growing has impact on the economic spatial difference courses of cities along the drainage areas of The Yellow River is illustrated.Chapter four analyses the city economic spatial difference's mechanism and causes along the drainage areas of The Yellow River by computation model. Through the estimate of natural advantage and agglomeration economy, their effect to the spatial difference and decision mode of that are discussed.Chapter five summaries main conclusions and illustrates the deficiency of the study, and then indicates the next research aspects.Based on the research, this paper reached the following conclusions:The economic development of cities along the drainage areas of The Yellow River has natural"grads"difference, the spatial difference manifests more obvious in the province-level, core-periphery spatial difference is forming. The city economic scale's spatial difference is more distinct than that of economic development level. The differencing pattern of growing pole is steady and distinct, spatial growing axes have showed the effects of diffused chunnel in province-level. In core area, various scaled cities develop balance and have higher growing and economic development level. However, cities in non-core areas extend mainly along the growing axes and river valley, a great deal of small cities and few outsize economy scale cities exist together, a great deal of low-level cities and high-level cities exist together.Since the year of 1984, the economic difference trend of cities along the drainage areas of The Yellow River takes a 'V' shape, which first shrinks and then expands with the breaking point at the year of 1996. Economic system reform of different stages has different impact on city spatial difference, and the free flow of factors finally leads to the current expansile trend of city spatial difference. The city economic growing pattern along the drainage areas of The Yellow River is changing from quantitative rise to qualitative improvement, which influences significantly to the spatial difference. In the middle and upper reaches, the city economic development appears polarizing phenomenon, on one hand, economic growth centers on core area cities and a few cities in the upper reach; on the other hand, the economic development patterns of cities in Shanxi and Shaanxi province divert downwards in the middle reach. Industry is a main source of the city economic spatial difference. The city economy will take more strengthened province-level district trait and however, the gap of city development among province-level will extend.Under the Condition that technology economy and culture system are fixed, the spatial difference of city economy is determined by natural advantage and agglomeration economy. Combining with the two perspectives, the paper finds that the spatial difference of city economy is affected by natural diversity and dominated by agglomeration economy. Natural conditions affect moderately on the spatial difference of city economy, but mineral resources affect severely. It is conservative estimate that incremental employment of mining industry per 10000 people may generate 640 RMB per capita of city economic growth. It is predict that the specialization economy of manufacturing sector will determine the direction of the evolution of spatial difference, the employment of city manufacturing sector increases 10 percent will bring about 11 percent of the gathering effectiveness. Urbanization economy plays an important role in the process of spatial difference, the diversification index increases 0.01 will bring about 3 percent of the gathering effectiveness. At the same time, urbanization brings economical saving and associated income, which have great significance to the city economic development.
