Empirical Study On Relationships Between Knowledge Infrastructure And Urban Competitiveness

Infrastructure is continuously considered as prerequisite of economy growth and society development, and the condition and level of city infrastructure system are directly affecting speed and efficiency.of urban economy growth. Along with reveal of knowledge economy, knowledge and information have become the most important elements. So city development will depend on whether city carries on knowledge creation, sharing and application or not. As a result, knowledge infrastructure values a lot for urban competitiveness. Therefore under foundations of related theories, this article starts empirical research on relationships between knowledge infrastructure and Shanghai urban competitiveness within 1985-2005 year sample, and tries to give some suggestions to improve urban competitiveness from knowledge infrastructure perfection aspect.This article starts with topic background, research significance, and points out innovations, then reviews systematic summary to present research situation about urban competitiveness from home and abroad in the second part, Next, the paper defines knowledge infrastructure and its necessary factors, simultaneously urban competitiveness concept and influence factors as well, and summarizes their theory relations with the front contents. In the fourth part, it introduces measurement models to be used later and constructs appraisal index system on theory foundation.The fifth part is the core content, it analyses cointegraton relations between knowledge infrastructure and Shanghai city competitiveness on the base of variables stability by unit root test, and obtains long term balanced cointegration regression equation. Subsequently it establishes error correction models to describe short-term dynamic change and carries on forecast variance decomposition. The result shows, short-term dynamic alignment mechanism exists between knowledge infrastructure and urban competitiveness, meanwhile various factors generate obvious different influence way to city competitiveness.
