Research On Regional Industrial Competitiveness In China

The Chinese economy has been going up quickly and has gained a great achievement that is recognized in the world since the reformation and opening. This great achievement profits from the great increase of Chinese industrial economy. However, the level of the regional industrial development is great different because of the disparity of productive mode, productive technique and resource. This status arouses many economists'attentions. And major studies believe that the disparity of regional industrial economy in China minished in 1980s,but has enlarged since 1990s.The Asian financial conjuncture in 1997 brought some negative influences in Chinese industrial economy, it also caused many economists starting attaching importance to the problems of the industrial economic system and the direction of the development. The industrial economic structure in China has been changed since the policy of'Development of the West Regions'actualized in 2000 and the policy of'Development of Northeast Industrial Base'in 2003. So in this new period, studying in industrial competitiveness is a right way to study in the actuality, the developing direction, potential and holistic situation of regional industrial, which has a realistic significance.There are five chapters in this paper. The detail show,The fist chapter is the exordium. There are four parts in it. Fist of all, we summarize the actuality of industrial development in China and the background of this paper. The second part is about the history of the industrial competitiveness study and the major production in the world. In the third part, we mention the skeleton and the method of this paper.We summarize the theories about the regional industrial competitiveness in the second part. These theories include industrial competition theory, comparative advantage theory, competition advantage theory and regional economics. Define the concept of the competitiveness and industrial competitiveness in the first part. Secondly, having explained comparative advantage theory and competition advantage theory. In finical part, having mentioned major theory in regional economics.The third chapter is about the foundation of evaluation index system of regional industrial competitiveness and the evaluated method. Fist of all, having founded an evaluation index system accorded with the situation of China based correlative studies in the world. Then we explain the feasibility of this evaluation index system. The evaluated methods of this paper include factor analysis and classify analysis. In the finial part of this chapter, we introduce the keystone of factor analysis and classify analysis, and establish factor analysis model.Chapter four analyzes some in real example. It is a research focal point herein. This chapter uses the factor to analyze and assign to one layer of analytical methods of cluster, to influence China 29 industrial competitiveness of province, municipality and autonomous region carry on factor analysis, score arrange in an order and area divide, probe into area industrial competitiveness reason that disparity produce, in order to promote the regional industrial competitiveness, promote and develop regionally in harmony and offer the basis. The analysis results on the basis of the data in 2000 and 2004 show that there three factors that influence the regional industrial competitiveness in China. And the classify analysis results show that the 29 provinces in China except Tibet and Yunnan ascribe to four groups which are leading group, challenging group, pursuing group and lag group. In the forth part, we analyze the industrial competitiveness of Jilin with the same method above. Then having got the results about the advantage and disadvantage of Jilin's industrial competitiveness comparing with the average level in Northeast and in the North areas. At last, giving some feasible suggestions.Chapter five is the results of this paper. There are five results,1.Dimensions produces, efficiency of output and science and technology innovation are the major factors that influence regional industrial competitiveness in China. The factor of dimensions produces gives the largest contributor rate, the second one is output efficiency, science and technology innovation is the least one. This result shows that the dimensions has a greatest influence on regional industrial competitiveness, then is the efficiency, the least one is science and technology innovation.2.The disparity of industrial competitiveness of different area in China is still very large, but comparatively disparity has been minishing. In 2000, the maximal difference of general factor analysis score is 0.84,which reduces to 0.78 in 2004. It shows that the absolute difference is still large, but comparatively disparity has been minishing. Thus it can be seen, the actualization of policy about founding a harmonious society constituted by Chinese government has gained some achievements in industrial field.3.The industrial competitiveness of the North is clearly stronger than the Middle and the West, and the difference between the Middle and the West is not large. The general competitiveness of the Middle is a little better than the West, but some provinces in the West are better than the Middle areas. The industry development of provinces in the North is not uniform. There are 7 types that have their own characteristic and advantage. Their industrial competitive nesses are different.4.It is suggestive that the North can keep upgrading the industrial structure towards the new type industrial economy whose core productivity is science and technology innovation. The Middle and the West can develop their preponderant industry, and reform state-owned industrial firms deeply. Of course, the science and technology innovation is also important.5.The industrial competitiveness of Jilin has been enhanced in absolute value, but it is not preponderant compared with other areas. The major reason is that the dimensions are not large enough. Jilin's efficiency is preponderant compared with other areas, but dropped these years. It results in a little decline in general competitiveness. So it is necessary of reforming state-owned industrial firms deeply and solving all the problems in the reformation. The science competitiveness of Jilin is very weak, but is increasing these years. In these years, Jilin has got a passel of industrial firms which are the leading firm in their fields. So larger devotion to these fields can redound to the stronger industrial competitiveness of Jilin.
