Oppenheimer's Viewpoints On Management Of Scientific Research And Relationship Between Science And Politics

It was North Korean underground nuclear test and Iran's nuclear crisis that made me pay attention to the first atomic bomb,to "father of the American atomic bomb"—J.Robert Oppenheimer.Oppenheimer is an American-jew,who is bright and outstanding. After graduating from Harvard University,he sailed to Europe for further study and research. During that period,he made a lot of great contribution to quantum mechanics,which also made him become a world-famous physicist. Oppenheimer not only was good at scientific work ,but also had deep scientific thought. More important,he was able to apply scientific thought to the real work. Oppenheimer made full use of Complementary Thought and Glasnost Thought that were put forward by Niels Bohr de facto.In detail,he applied the Complementary Thought to the management of Los Alamos laboratory for mediating the conflict between science and politics. And he committed himself to atomic energy international control which was based on Glasnost. Then Oppenheimer was involved in the dispute of H-bomb and considered to be the vanguard against the H-bomb, so he was accused and revoked his security licence in loyalty-security hearings of 1954.The project of A-bomb and H-bomb that were related to Oppenheimer more or less are described as classic paradigm of "big science".However,in big scienc period Science probably leads to negative social consequence that scientists have to face. That is to say, scientists must bear responsibility for the scientific negative effect and deal carefully with the relationship between science and politics. Through analyzing Oppenheimer's scientific and political activities,I found out that he had been attempting to keep the complementary relationship between science and politics.That was Oppenheimer's viewpoint on the relationship between science and politics which was very hopeful to guarantee the development as well as correct application of science.But Oppenheimer could not go through in this way all the time, the reason of which seemed so very intricate that I could not clarify it according to the materials in my hands. In any case Oppenheimer pointed out a promising way to deal with the relationship between science and politics for sicientists in the future.
