Abstract/Summary:
World tourism has been growing fast since the 1960s and its impacts have drawn more attention. According to the WTTC research report in the 1990s, the tourism industry has become the biggest industry of the world for its large contribution to the GDP of the world. As a big tourism province in China, Shandong province has a good condition in its tourism. Reported by the Tourism Bureau of Shandong, the general income of Shandong tourism has reached 103.9 billion Yuan, while its internal tourists 100 million, foreign tourists 1 million, ranked 6th in China provinces. In fact, the economic impact of tourism is very complicated regarding a country or a region, and also has various expressions. There are many venues to figure out the impact of tourism, such as the multiplier analysis, the input-output analysis, and the TSA. Now TSA has become the most popular international analysis. By now, China is still on its exploration theoretically. However, many other provinces have already utilized TSA on their own region and gained progress, such as Jiangsu and Guangxi. Shandong hasn't has much theory research yet and former investigation on economic impact of tourism only focused on the theory analyses, neglecting data support.Based on the previous study, this thesis will analyze the opportunities and challenges the Chinese tourism is facing, study the impact of WTO rules on this industry, investigate the state- of- art of the Shandong tourism. Then taking advantage of the data, we evaluate the impact of tourism on the economic development in Shandong province, including the income impact of the tourism on the regional GDP and on the regional employment. Through the research, we find that every Yuan of tourism income will contribute to 14 Yuan more of the regional GDP. It also does great contributions to the employment and other economical quota. We also believe that developing a good environment for the tourism is pretty important to enhance the competition capability, improve the investigation of TSA in Shandong, and hence provide more data support to the development of Shandong province.
