Approaches To Rational Exploitation And Utilization Of Soil Resources In Xinyang City

Situated in the southern of Henan Province, Xinyang city adjoins Anhui Province in the east, borders on Huibei Province in the south, is adjacent to Zhumadian city in the north, and is contiguous to Nanyang city in the west. It lies between the south of Dabie Mountain and the upstream of Huaihe River, and belongs to the transition zone from subtropical zone to warm temperate zone. The total land area is 1,892,373.3 hectares, including two districts and eight counties with a total population of 7,810,000, which accounts for 11.3% of the total area of Henan Province. The arable land is 790,737.0 hectares. Forestry land utilizes 456,141.4 hectares; pasture land is 7,498.4 hectares and 85,543.7 hectares of aquatic surface. Xinyang city with a large population is a major agriculture city which is backward in economic development and has small soil resources compared to the rest city of Henan Province. Soil types in Xinyang are mainly paddy soils and yellow-cinnamon soils, accounts for 41.5% and 17.6%, respectively. Agriculture accounts for a large proportion of food, oil-bearing crops, tea leaves, vegetables, Chinese chestnut, gingko, live pigs, freshwater fish and other agricultural products in the category, and occupy an important position in Henan Province. How to properly exploit the sustainable utilization of the soil resources in Xinyang city will be an important topic in the development of local agriculture. It is of great significance both theoretically and practically to research the situation of soil resources, approach of reasonable exploitation and utilization, and understand correctly the functions of soil resources in the sustainable development of agriculture in Xinyang.With the continuous development of society and the aggravation of the conflicts among resources, environment, population and food, soil as an important natural resource is the fundamental basis for the sustainable development of agriculture. The author studied the soil resources and approaches of proper exploitation and utilization in Xinyang city from the conditions of soil formation, soil resources, land use and its problems. The author upholds the view of scientific development, and points out the problems in the exploitation and utilization of soil resources in Xinyang city.
