The Construction Of Central Towns And Urbanization In Suburban Areas Of Big Cities

In the new century, there has brought about a new wave tide of urbanization on the broad land of China, which caused extensive concerns from the domestic and international scholars. During the history of our Party and country, the 16^th conference of Chinese Communist Party put forward definitely, 'gradually improving urbanization, insisting on moderating the development of big, medium, small cities and small towns, walking the road of urbanization with Chinese features.' At present, it has become a strategic urgent mission to carry out that how to speed the urbanization, break down the urban-rural dual-structure and accomplish to plan urban-rural areas as a whole.In view of the reality, there are still a few problems with the urbanization, which mainly lies in the low level, urban-rural dual-structure, lagging the industrialization and so on. Therefore, it must actively discuss about the new path of urbanization based on summing up the experience. In a long run, the construction of small towns has become one important path for urbanization. But it has exposed many irregularities and problems with great performance. The quantity-oriented and extensive development pattern has increasingly become the main in cumbrances for rural urbanization and modernization. As the increasingly deep process of rural urbanization, it requires to transform the pattern from extensive one to intensive one, in order to improve its efficiency. Under such background, the central-town development has become the key point of urbanization. Based on the theory about urbanization home and abroad and the practice during recent years, this research studies the urbanization in a perspective of central-town. Through studying the case of Xintang in Guangzhou, this research discusses how to deal with the construction of central town in suburban areas in big cities and the relevant reasons.Central towns are compared to 'the end of city and the beginning of country', the ache of city and country. They could absorb good resource form neighbor towns to be the leader of towns-group. Rural urbanization must experience a process from small towns, then central towns to city gradually. At present, in the regions which urbanization is well developed, central-town construction has gradually become the pith of small town development.The construction of central towns that situates in suburban areas of big cities is one important part of the construction of central towns in our country.
