Property Rights is often considered as the core of the institution of modern market economy, and the basic framework to construct other modern institutions. What is Property Rights'! With regard to this problem, there is not a coincident conclusion. In fact, different schools have different opinions. As far as I am concerned, to thoroughly analyze the essence of Property Rights, is a very important and urgent task. So, in this thesis, from the history of the economic life of Mankind, I have researched the evolution of Property and Property Rights. And I have given a primary conclusion--the essence of Property Rights may lie in its sociality.The thesis has six parts:The first part gives an introduction to some basic concepts concerned with Property Rights, and some main approaches to my topic.Chapter one investigates the evolvement of Property Rights. It includes two sections. First, an outline of how to Property and Property Rights appear and how to develop in the early time. Second, I try to analyze how to property rights become absolute rights in the early period of capitalism.In chapter two, I continue to investigate what happens in the economic life after property rights become absolute. And I think, it is the universal circulation of property in the whole social life that lead the absolute property rights system disaggregates.Chapter three has two sections. The first discusses the changes in the modern lifestyle after the traditional Property Rights system disaggregates. The second shows the contents of Property Rights theory and how to be established in contemporary western country.In chapter four, I try to give an account of the essence about Property Rights. Based on the conclusion, I go back to evaluate the Property Rights theory in contemporary western country.In the last chapter, I attempt to analyze the social function of Property Rights. Because, I think, this work will help us have a comprehensive understanding to the essence of Property Rights.
